COLLECTIVE WRITING ACTION
Setting for an Open Source
KL. 13 – 17

TALK
The inside and the outside of a book
kl. 19:00

rum46
Studsgade 46
Aarhus

Senere samme dag, under titlen The inside and the outside of a book giver Brandon Labelle en talk om bogen som opbevaringssted for stemmer: “…the book is a scene of mystery, the book is an object and a subject; the book hides, and then surfaces; the book whispers, screams, trembles, withstands; the book travels, it migrates…”
Alle er velkommen til at deltage. Man behøver ikke at have deltaget i Setting for an Open Source for at komme til talken. scroll for mere info på engelsk

Setting for an Open Source
The Setting is an open participatory situation where visitors contribute to a collective writing action. A set of laptops are installed and connected to projectors, allowing visitors to write, to witness others’ writings, to read what is happening. The writing is freely directed by curiosity, questioning, fictions and speculations aimed at stimulating thoughts on the contemporary condition of “public intimacy” – common strangers, overhearing others, sharing here and there. It is imagined that a series of silent collaborations will unfold within the writing gesture, as one visitor writes while also witnessing what others are writing; one may read what others write and may feel inspired to counter, to balance, to interject; or writing might act as a form of diary, capturing the moment and giving voice to the present. The Setting may become a durational space, an open source for materializing a temporary meeting and multiplying narratives around commonality, publicness, global culture, intimate sharing.

The inside and the outside of a book
The book is a repository of voices; the book is a scene of mystery; the book is an object and a subject; the book hides, and then surfaces; the book whispers, screams, trembles, withstands; the book travels, it migrates; it also sits still; the book collects dust; the book may stand – it even lies down, or folds over; the book smells; the book demands attention; the book may catch fire; it may survive as well; the book creates shadows, hides the face, distracts us; it incites glances; and on certain days, the book inspires radical activity; the book is erotic; the book is annoying – it figures an emotional landscape; inside; outside; all around; the book is a global project.

Brandon LaBelle is an artist, writer and theorist working with sound culture, voice, and questions of agency. He deveops and presents artistic projects and performances within a range of international contexts, often working collaboratively and in public. Recent projects include “Civic Center”, La Casa Encendida, Madrid, “Sixth Housing Estate”, South London Gallery, London, and “Hobo College”, Marrakech Biennial parallel project. He is the editor of Errant Bodies Press and author of Lexicon of the Mouth (2014), Diary of an Imaginary Egyptian (2012), Acoustic Territories (2010), and Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art (2006). He lives in Berlin.
